What is Pi network
Pi network is a cryptocurrency project that was developed by a team of graduates from Stanford university in 2019. Even though it is still in development, the project has a global user base of over 40 million users at the time of writing. The aim of the project which utilizes the blockchain technology is to create a decentralized digital currency called Pi Coin.
Unlike other digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, users can mine Pi coin using mobile phones. This is because Bitcoin requires expensive mining hardware, like GPUs, that consume a lot of power. Pi coin, on the other hand, removes that limitation and enable users to mine using an app on their mobile phones.
What is a Pi node
A Pi Network Node is a computer running the Pi Node software that helps maintain and secure the Pi blockchain. It therefore plays a crucial role in validating transactions and keeping the network decentralized.
Unlike Bitcoin or Ethereum, where nodes require high-powered mining rigs requiring expensive and advanced computing power, Pi Nodes do not require expensive hardware or high electricity consumption. Instead, Pi Network uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) that relies on trust and consensus mechanisms rather than traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining used by the majority of digital currencies. Transactions are verified by a network of trusted nodes instead of miners solving complex puzzles.
Users who run Pi node software on their computer to validate transactions are classified as Node Operators and they are rewarded with Pi coins for their contribution. Additionally, Running a Pi node has a possibility of Potential future rewards once the blockchain is fully launched and the coin is listed on the exchanges.
Types of Pi nodes
There are mainly two types of Pi nodes available.
There are mainly two types of Pi nodes available.
- Regular Node
- Runs the Pi Node software.
- Helps verify transactions and maintain the blockchain.
- Runs on a normal computer (Windows/macOS).
- Super Node
- More advanced than a regular node.
- Maintains a full copy of the Pi blockchain.
- Plays a crucial role in validating transactions.
- Requires better uptime, connectivity, and performance.

How to install Pi node on your Windows computer
Anyone, including you, can operator a Pi node and earn rewards for contributing in validating transactions on the Pi network. The basic prerequisites for running a Pi node are:
- A Windows or macOS computer (24/7 uptime is recommended for reliability).
- Stable internet connection – You will need a Public IP address assigned to your router.
- Pi Network account (already mining Pi on the mobile app).
- Basic knowledge of networking (for port forwarding on the router, if needed).
Once you have the basic prerequisites in place, follow the video tutorial below to install and setup your Pi node.
1: Prepare Your Computer
Before you begin, ensure your Windows PC is ready for this exciting adventure. Make sure you have:
- A stable internet connection (because every great journey needs a reliable path!).
- At least 2GB of RAM and sufficient storage space (your computer is about to become a key player in the Pi ecosystem!).
2: Download Docker Desktop
- Head over to the Docker website and feel the thrill of downloading Docker Desktop for Windows.
- Install Docker by following the on-screen instructions. This is your gateway to running the Pi Node software!
3: Install the Pi Network Node Software
- Visit the official Pi Network website and let the excitement build as you download the Pi Node software.
- Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the prompts. You’re one step closer to becoming an active part of the Pi Network community!
4: Configure Docker for Pi Node
- Open Docker Desktop and feel the pride as you log in or create a new account.
- Navigate to the settings and allocate resources (CPU, RAM, and storage) to Docker. This is where you empower your computer to support the Pi Network!
5: Run the Pi Node Application
- Launch the Pi Node software and let the anticipation grow as you log in with your Pi account credentials.
- Follow the setup wizard, and soon you’ll see your Node spring to life, ready to contribute to the network.
Step 6: Keep Your Node Active
The Pi Network thrives on participation, so keep your Node running as much as possible. Feel the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping to secure and decentralize the future of cryptocurrency!
